Homeowners in foreclosure can become the target of mortgage loan scammers who seek to take advantage of their situation. The Homeownership Preservation Foundation, 1-888-995-HOPE, is alerting homeowners to resources that will help them avoid being victimized by unscrupulous companies conducting mortgage loan modification and foreclosure rescue scams.

The VA approved lender, Met Life, recently changed their VA streamline guidelines. Many veterans and military were in the process of refinancing when the new changes were announced. Met Life stepped up and approved these loans for veterans that were already in the process of refinancing helping them save hundreds of dollars.

The National Mortgage Complaint Center says, "we are looking for a very specific group of homeowners in each state, who paid their payments on time, were not in the arrears, wanted a loan modification because they were upside down on their mortgage, and they then lost the house-little to no formal notifications from the bank." The National Mortgage Complaint Center says, "by now we are certain most homeowners have heard about all US State Attorney Generals investigating foreclosures in their states. Our investigation will attempt to clarify the most severe foreclosure fraud problems."
